The Timber Frame Great Room

With this entry, I'd like to focus on a particular area of our craft: large-scale structural timberframing. Though much of our work is designed to add beauty and style to the existing structure, stylistic timber work is actually a very recent style of timber framing. The vast majority of timber framing in history has come from a desire to merge elegant craftsmanship with practical structural needs. Though BBT has done many pavilions in this style, we have done relatively few houses. Today, we're taking a look at one we completed early in early 2014.

Fireplace and Cabinet Timber Framing in Lenoir City

We recently completed work on a fireplace mantle and cabinet build in Lenoir City. The home is in the process of being fully renovated and the owners were unhappy with the existing look of a simple mantle on a large stone fireplace in their living room. We were able to work with the existing stone, design an entirely new timber frame arrangement from scratch, and build a system of timbers and cabinets that revitalized the look of the whole room. Take a look!

Just finished the installation of the outer timbers.

William Davis Jr. Memorial Pavilion in the Lyons View Community

BBT had a wonderful opportunity back in June. We were able to help build the William Davis Jr. Memorial Pavilion in the Lyon's Bend View Community. The pavilion honors the great man that raised his family in the neighborhood, who faithfully worked as a gardener and butler for 60 years in order that his seven children could go on to accomplish more than he was able to in his life. The project was spearheaded by one of his sons, Ron Davis. For more information on the pavilion, just click here. You can see the assembly of our work below!

BBT is known for our craftsmanship, but that doesn't mean we only handle small jobs! Recently, we had the privilege of working with Swaggerty's Farm Sausage to design, fabricate and install some beautiful timberwork in their a truss system for a Great Room and three timber frame entrances. Last week we looked at the Great Room, today's post will look at the three timber frame entrances.

Stoop for Rear Entryway in Knoxville

We recently completed a stoop for a back patio in Knoxville. Our custom work stretched over two doors and a living room window. We pride ourselves in providing work that defines the look of the space with its beauty. In this particular case, the homeowner commented that the family had lived in the home for 12 years, but the back patio never felt quite "complete" until we installed the stoop.

New Front Entryway in Bearden Area

BBT just finished a fantastic front entryway for a local realtor in the Bearden area. Entryways are one of our most common projects, so I have included several pictures to give an idea of the detailed craftsmanship that we bring to our work.
